MAGIC AMERICA booked her ticket for next month's Stan James1000 Guineas with victory in the Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte on Wednesday.

The seven furlong trial featured a bumper 17-runner field, but there was no mistaking the authority with which Criquette Head-Maarek's charge took the race by the scruff of the neck inside the final furlong.

Magic America, who finished runner-up to Dutch Art in the Prix Morny last season, sprinted past four rivals on her inner under Johnny Murtagh to score by two lengths.

Magic America is as low as 20-1 with Ladbrokes for the Guineas and she also has experience of the track after finishing sixth in last year's Cheveley Park Stakes.

Head-Maarek said: "She'll improve and it's likely that we'll go to Newmarket."

JOE FANNING was hit with an 18-day suspension after the Leicester stewards found him guilty of not riding out aboard Zar Solitario on Thursday.

The Mark Johnston-trained three-year-old was sent off the 10-11 favourite for the Ladbrokes.com Kibworth Handicap, in which he dead-heated for first place with 33-1 outsider New Beginning.

Having stolen three lengths approaching the final furlong, Fanning was adjudged to have eased up, enabling Sue Lamyman's charge to join him on the line.

Having been found guilty under Rule 156, Fanning will be out of action between April 23 and May 10 inclusive.

The ban means Fanning is unable to ride at the 1000 and 2000 Guineas meeting at Newmarket.

TIM PITT has secured the services of Mick Kinane to partner promising filly Blue Rocket in next week's Shadwell Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket.

Winner of a maiden at Haydock, the daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar was last seen finishing ninth in the Cheveley Park Stakes last September.
