Horse Racing: Don't Miss chance to kiss the Blarney; RACING SPECIAL.
DERMOT WELD and stable jockey Pat Smullen look good for a double in the four Flat races at Cork today, kicking off with Miss Blarney Stone (3.10) in the Irish Stallion Farms Fillies Handicap.
This three-year-old got off the mark last month at Roscommon, where she led a furlong from home and ran on strongly to beat 14 rivals in a seven-furlong maiden event.
She is reasonably treated in this handicap, and can prove too good for Starspangled, who was a beaten favourite when only third behind Crossing at Gowran Park. Golden Arrow(3.40) has tackled some smart opposition this season and should get off the mark now that Weld lowers the colt's sights in the Cork Race.
Fifth behind Araafa in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, Golden Arrow contested the American Derby in Chicago on his last appearance and finished a creditable fifth behind Union Avenue at Arlington. Winner of a Listed race here last season, Golden Arrow looks a banker.
