Horse Racing: Romance colt a fillip for Rothschilds; BLOODSTOCK WORLD.

Byline: Nancy Sexton

MAGICAL ROMANCE, the 2004 Cheveley Park Stakes winner whose 4,600,000gns sale set an auction record for a broodmare at Tattersalls in 2006, gave birth to a colt by Dansili on January 20, writes Nancy Sexton.

The news is especially welcome to the mare's owners, the Rothschild family, who were nonplussed when the daughter of Barathea produced a Pivotal filly on December 21, shortly after they paid what was then a world-record sum for her through agent James Wigan of London Thoroughbred Services. The Pivotal filly is now officially a two-year-old, despite being only 14 months old.

Two other high-profile purchases Wigan made for the Rothschilds, Angara and Spinning Queen, have both produced colts by Montjeu this year. Grade 1 winner Angara, a 3,000,000gns buy at last year's Tattersalls December sales, will be bred back to Dansili, while Spinning Queen, who cost the same amount at Tattersalls a year earlier, will be covered by Galileo.
