Hookup sex.

* We are most appreciative of the article about sexual ethics, "Even on Catholic campuses, hookup sex prevails" (NCR, May 30) and plan to share its contents with our 12- and 15-year-old daughters. Although parents are often encouraged to speak to their children about sex, they are not encouraged to put it in the context of their own intimacy. Why is it such a novel idea to discuss, in an appropriate and healthy manner, the joy of marital intimacy an d pleasure with the children that are born of it? If such conversations were encouraged by the church and others, perhaps college students would not seek parties that glorify such shocking debauchery but would seek mature, life-giving relationships like their parents'.
