Janet Heck, an instructor of special programs at Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley, Calif., recently received the Excellence in Providing Institutional Leadership Award from the Instructional Telecommunications Council.

Wanda J. Long, professor of mathematics at St. Charles Community College in St. Peters, Mo., has been re-elected to a second term as central vice president of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.

Karen Jones, an associate professor of English at St. Charles Community College in St. Peters, Mo., has received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Three faculty members at Camden County College in Blackwood, N.J., have received the college's first awards for excellence in adjunct teaching. The recipients include: Virginia Bittner, a professor of math, science and health careers; Carl Durkow, who teaches business, computer and technical studies; and John Gordon, a professor in the arts, science and humanities department.

Dr. Isa N. Engleberg, professor of communication studies at Prince George's Community College in Largo, Md., has been elected as second vice president of the National Communication Association.

Dr. Faye Eichholzer, an online English instructor at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, N.Y., has received an award for excellence in online teaching from the Learning Resources Network, an international association of online learning.

Three works of art by Christopher Berry, a drawing and painting instructor at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio, will be published as part of a book entitled "New American Paintings."

Judy Whipkey, a faculty member who teaches retention courses for first-year students at West Virginia State Community and Technical College in Institute, W. Va., has received the 2001 Outstanding Contribution Award from the West Virginia Community and Technical College Association.

The Defense Meritorious Service Medal has been given to Jim Makofske, an accounting and information systems instructor at Fresno City College in Fresno, Calif. Makofske is also a reserve naval officer.
