Japan-based Honda Motor Company's (NYSE: HMC)(TYO: 7267) CEO, Takanobu Ito, is stepping down in June.

Takahiro Hachigo, Honda's managing officer, will replace Ito when he formally resigns.

Ito has been with the automaker since 1978. He started his career in R&D, where he was in charge of chassis design for the CR-X, Accord, Prelude and NSX. He was also responsible for development of the Acura MDX. Like Ito, Hachigo has an engineering background.
