Homes get a revamp.

Families will be ringing the changes this New Year with improvements to their homes.

Properties in the East Shields area of South Shields, South Tyneside, will be getting a new kitchen, bathroom, rewiring or central heating to bring them up to the Decent Homes Standard set by the Government.

The streets selected for this round of improvements are Mowbray Road, Horsley Vale and 104-170 The Lonnen.

Coun Iain Malcolm, Chair of the East Shields Community Area Forum, said: "Everyone has the right to live in decent homes that nurture them and in which they can bring up their families safely.

"These latest improvements will make a massive difference to residents."
