Homers give Colts a split.

PRINEVILLE - Danny Urness and Dylan Hesse each hit home runs, and Thurston defeated Crook County 9-3 in the second game of a nonleague baseball doubleheader on Wednesday. Crook County won the opener 5-1.

Brooks Chapman was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, and Urness had three of Thurston's 18 hits in the second game.

North Eugene 4, Hood River Valley 3: Markus Lindsey's RBI single scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, and Dan Winterstein was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the visiting Highlanders.

Willamette 6, McMinnville 5; Ashland 4, Willamette 3: Travis Woodke doubled in Andy Maahs in the bottom of the seventh in the Wolverines' come-from-behind win in their first game in Ashland.

Willamette lost the second game on Tony Meza's single in the bottom of the seventh for Ashland. Woodke was 4-of-6 on the day.

Softball

South Eugene 5, Springfield 4: Ricci Estey had three hits and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Axemen. Margarite Waddell had 11 strikeouts for South.

Alicia Meza had two hits and two RBIs for the Millers.

Thurston 2, Crook County 1; Crook County 4, Thurston 0: Alyssa Peterson singled to score Sara Varin for the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, helping the Colts win the first game of their road doubleheader.

Stayton 13, Siuslaw 3; Stayton 16, Siuslaw 2: Natasha Crisman had three doubles among her six hits in the two games, and she struck out 10 in the opener of the Eagles' road sweep.
