Homebrewer will create recipe for Pete's 1993 Wicked Winter Ale.

The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) announced Pete's Brewing Co.'s sponsorship of the 1993 Ninkasi Award to be presented at the 1993 National Homebrew Competition, July 27-29 in Portland, Or.

In addition to the award, judges and Pete's Brewing Co. will choose one of the Ninkasi Award winner's beers to be brewed as the first Pete's Wicked Winter Brew, which will be brewed and distributed nationally.

The winner will receive name recognition on every bottle of the Winter Brew, registration at the two week Short Course in Brewing Technology at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, attendance at the first brewing of Pete's Wicked Winter Brew.

"As a homebrewer, I am excited to offer this opportunity to a fellow homebrewer," said Pete Slosberg, founder of Pete's Brewing Company.

Slosberg's own homebrewing led to Pete's Wicked Ale, now a nationally acclaimed microbeer. "This is the chance for someone's homebrewing skills to be recognized across the United States," he said.

The Ninkasi Award, named after the Sumerian Goddess of Brewing, is given for brewing proficiency across several categories of beer. Scoring is based on the greatest accumulation of points across all style categories.
