Holz-Her outlines plans for the '90s.

Holz-Her U.S. could begin manufacturing products for worldwide distribution as early as next year, according to plans revealed at the company's open house of its new North American headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.

Kurt Waldthausen, president of Holz-Her U.S., also announced that Holz-Her plans to expand its product line of panel processing equipment. At Ligna Hannover, Holz-Her, owned by Reich Spezialmaschinen GmbH, introduced its first horizontal sliding table saw. The company also manufactures edgebanders and vertical panel saws. Some of the edgebanders are assembled in Charlotte.

"Reich Spezialmaschinen will probably be the first European company that will start manufacturing product in its U.S. subsidiary in 1992 and export it back to the parent company for sales in European and Asian markets," Waldthausen said. "That very product will also be sold in Canada, the U.S., and Central and South America through the Charlotte subsidiary."

Holz-Her U.S. officials, joined by Wulf Reich, owner of Reich Spezialmaschinen, and Charlotte Mayor Sue Myrick underscored their commitment to the North American market in leading a tour of the company's new 43,000-square-foot facility in Charlotte. The facility includes sales offices, parts inventory, showroom and an edgebander assembly area. The facility represents the first of a planned four-phase development.

Other goals cited by Waldthausen include introducing a new "innovative" leasing program, promote a "no excuse guarantee" to ship parts within 48 hours of their order and introduce a "Rent-A-Bander program." In addition, the company plans to continue its training program not only for certifying distributor technicians but also end users.
