Holiday punch.

Citrus juice, freshly squeezed or reconstituted, makes the refreshing base for this light holiday wine punch. 1 cup each sugar and water 2 cups grapefruit juice 1/2 cup each lemon juice, lime juice, and orange juice 2 cups chilled club soda 1-1/2 quarts dry to moderately sweet white wine (use jug wine or 2 bottles, 750 ml each, of a varietal such as Chenin Blanc or French Colombard) or ginger ale This slices unpeeled orange, lemon, and lime Ice cubes

In a 1- to 2-quart pan, bring sugar and water to boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved; let syrup cool, then chill. Add grapefruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice, and orange juice to syrup. (For freshest flavor, assemble punch just before serving; or you can cover and chill mixture up to 24 hours.)

To serve, pour juice mixture into a 5- to 6-quart punch bowl. Pour in club soda and wine; add the orange, lemon, and lime slices and ice to keep cold. Ladle punch into cups to serve. Makes 3-1/4 quarts, enough for 18 servings of about 3/4 cup each.--Helen Hall, Port Angeles, Wash.
