Holiday death policeman 'had taken overdose'.
PC Rhydian Boast, 28, an officer with South Wales Police, died on Wednesday during a holiday.
It is thought the police officer, of Caerphilly, took heart drugs belonging to a friend and left a note, saying he did not want to live any more. His force confirmed that the death was not thought to be suspicious.
Chief Superintendent Josh Jones of South Wales Police said PC Boast, a member of a neighbourhood policing team in Cardiff, was "a credit to the force".
He said: "Rhydian was a highly-respected officer who made a real difference through his work with the city centre neighbourhood policing team. He was very popular amongst his colleagues and his death is a huge loss. He was a credit to the force and will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones."
Tributes have been pouring in to a group set up in his memory on social networking website Facebook.
Brett Davis wrote: "Such a shock have been taken away so young. You are a great guy and will be in all our memories always."
Sarah Head wrote: "I am gutted to hear such sad news. What a massive loss to your friends, family and our community.
"Why do the good ones go first. I really hope it's a better place."
According to PC Boast's entry on the Friends Reunited website, he left Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School in 1998 and joined South Wales Police in 2002.
