Holdsworth bolsters his squad with two signings.

Byline: Mark Bloom

NEWPORT County boss Dean Holdsworth has reacted to last weekend's shock 2-1 defeat to Kettering Town by signing Crawley striker Ben Wright and Rochdale left-back Alan Goodall.

Both players have signed three-month loan deals and go straight into the County squad that travelled to Barrow today in readiness for tomorrow's clash in which Holdsworth will demand his team get back to winning ways.

County could heap more pressure on struggling Barrow management duo Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan after they had to apologise to their fans following a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Rushden and Diamonds last weekend. That meant their winless streak stretched to nine games and Barrow remain third from bottom of the Blue Square Bet Premier table.

Barrow are now the only team in the division still without an away win this season and Holdsworth will be looking for a positive outcome after back-to-back losses at Newport Stadium.

Wright has a good chance to go straight into the starting line-up tomorrow, with Robbie Matthews resting a hamstring injury.

Holdsworth said: "I'm very pleased to get Wright because he's a quality player and he's a goalscorer.

"We needed more options up front because we've been creating chances but not finishing them, particularly in the last two games. As for Goodall, he has great experience and will be a major asset to this club.

"Depending on how things go with all parties concerned, Goodall could become a permanent move, but for the moment I feel we have reacted to the situation and brought in two players of quality.

"It was never the case of just signing players for the sake of it, they had to be quality."

Holdsworth admitted he will be looking to capitalise on Barrow's present woe adding: "They are in a bit of mess at the moment on and off the field and we hope to take advantage.

But we will worry about what we have to do."
