Hoddle's cup target.

GLENN HODDLE is hoping the Worthington Cup will provide Tottenham with a route into Europe next season, plus of course his first piece of silverware as manager.

Spurs made heavy going of it against Third Division Torquay at White Hart Lane last night, taking an hour to break the deadlock before easing into the third round with a 2-0 win.

Afterwards Hoddle said he was taking the competition very seriously, feeling it offers his team a realistic chance of honours.

"We want to go all the way in this tournament, the team we put out against Torquay proves that, " said Hoddle. "I don't care if other clubs don't take this competition seriously, we want to win this trophy."
