Hoaxers get msg.

Byline: ROD CHAYTOR

HOAX callers who phone 999 on their mobiles are being sent a text message warning: "If U do it again U will B cut off."

Firefighters at a city station came up with the idea after they got 50 malicious calls every month.

The callers to the fire station in Highgate, Birmingham, were traced and told: "U made a hoax call 2 emergency services."

The number of calls has now been slashed to just three a month. Malcolm Westwood of West Midlands Fire Brigade said: "This has worked well."

The country's 61 fire brigades may now introduce the scheme.
