Hiwin Technologies announces ambitious robot production scheme.
Taipei, Aug. 28, 2012 (CENS) -- Hiwin Technologies Corp.'s founder and chairman Eric Chou yesterday announced the company will begin volume production of its articulated robot arms and wafer robot arms in the first quarter of 2013 to constitute "the world's most complete industrial robot manufacturing hub."
He made the remarks at the company's institutional investors' conference in Taipei.
Chou pointed out that it is already a trend of global manufacturing industry to move toward intelligent automation. To keep up with the trend, Hiwin, he said, has been actively developing intelligent robots and has made several technological breakthroughs this year in drive motors and transmission systems. Chou noted that the company has mastered knowhow of making these crucial components and can make them by itself, an advantage for the company's industrial robot manufacturing.
In response to institutional investors' fears that the company's current inventory buildup is similar to its buildup seen during the 2008 financial crisis, Chou said the company currently has only two weeks of inventory, which is in line with expectations.
In the second quarter this year, the company scored consolidated revenue of NT$3.6 billion (US$122 million at US$1: NT$30), surging 39% from NT$2.6 billion (US$88 million) it registered in the first quarter this year. Gross operating profit was NT$1.4 billion (US$49 million), soaring 47% from the first quarter this year. After tax net earnings per share was NT$2.55, compared with the NT$2.27 per share it earned in the first quarter.
The company ascribed the gross profit increase mostly to economy of scale in production and successful product portfolios. Chou said the company's shipment of high-margin industrial robots reached NT$204 million (US$6.8 million) in the second quarter, constituting around 6% of the company's total sales. ((Ken Liu))
