Hitachi reaches a Terabyte soon.

... Hitachi Global Storage has just announced that it will begin selling 1Tbyte (1000Gbytes) internal hard drives by the second quarter of 2007. Two versions of the drive will be available for purchase. The standard model, known as the Deskstar 7K1000, targets performance users, features a 7200rpm spindle speed and will be available for purchase with either the Serial ATA (SATA) or Parallel ATA (PATA) interface. Models equipped with the SATA interface offer 32Mbytes of onboard buffer memory. The silent version of the drive, known as the Cinemastar 7K1000, targets users interested in quiet drives for home-theatre PCs and digital video players. All 1Tbyte Deskstar models will make use of five platters and employ perpendicular recording technology.Perpendicular recording is a method of storing data perpendicularly (at a 90-degrees angle) on data platters rather than longitudinally. This allows for greater density of data on the same media without running the risk of data corruption. In addition to the 1Tbyte models, Hitachi also announced drives offering 750Gbytes of storage capacity. Like the 7K1000, the 750Gbyte models, known as the 7K750, will be available as Deskstar or Cinemastar models. These drives make use of four platters and also employ perpendicular recording technology. nHitachi reaches a Terabyte soon
