Historical artifacts found in Mersin.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- Ancient ruins and artifacts were found during construction work in Turkey's southern province of Mersin on Wednesday.

The ruins, which included marble columns, were immediately cordoned off, and officials from the Mersin Museum were informed. The artifacts were removed with care and transported to the museum for inspection.

In the last few years, historic ruins dating back 2,500 years have been found at other construction sites. Various artifacts have been put on display at the Mersin Museum.

Hundreds of ancient ruins have been found in Mersin in the last 10 years, including one of the most important treasures of Cilician history, the ancient city of Soli Pompeiopolis.

With the excavations still yet to be completed, many artifacts from Soli Pompeiopolis are expected to attract as many visitors as the ancient city of Ephesus in yzmir province.
