Hip Pocket; Game Boy slims down.
There are already two million Game Boys being played in Britain and the group expects to sell 100,000 of the updated version by early next year.
The pounds 49.99 Game Boy Pocket is 30 per cent smaller and 50 per cent lighter than the original. And it's claimed the black and white screen is clearer than the previous green one.
It plays all Game Boy cartridges, including the soon-to-be-released Donkey Kong Land 2 and the Mario games, yet weighs only 165g (six ounces). It's powered by two AAA sized batteries, which last 10 hours or more.
"It's cool and stylish and is being aimed as a fashion accessory," says a spokesman for Nintendo, which is backing the launch with pounds 500,000 worth of advertising.
"We are targeting people who might not have felt comfortable with a Game Boy before."
