Hillary 7-1 to admit defeat; POLITICS.

Byline: By Ian Wilkerson

HILLARY CLINTON is 7-1 with Hills to quit the race for the White House this week as the voters of Ohio and Texas go to the polls for presidential primaries today.

The Clinton camp remain hopeful that the former First Lady will still claim the Democratic nomination, despite failing to win the last 11 primaries.

However, Hills believe there could still be some mileage in the race against Illinois senator Barack Obama after the two large states have gone to the polls.

Spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "Clinton has been heavily backed for Ohio and Obama for Texas, so the results may not be conclusive."

Clinton is 2-5 to win Ohio and Obama is 1-3 to claim the most nominations in Texas, while Clinton is 15-4 to win both primaries and Obama 11-4.

However, former vice-president Al Gore has been cut to 20-1 from 50-1 for the White House by Paddy Power after the firm reported a pounds 2,000 bet yesterday.

John McCain looks sure to gain the Republican nomination, with votes also taking place in Vermont and Rhode Island.

Hills - Ohio primary: 2-5 Clinton, 7-4 Obama . Texas primary: 1-3 Obama, 9-4 Clinton. To quit race (not to quit) before midnight Sunday (GMT): 7 Clinton (1-16), 16 Obama (1-100).
