Highs and lows of the Barlows...

Peter Barlow is just one member of the soap clan who have been permanent residents of Corrie's cobbles since the show began almost 50 years ago. We take a look at the rest of the family.

TRACY BARLOW Most recently played by Kate Ford from 2002 to 2007, while Christabel Finch played her from birth in 1977 to 1985, with Holly Chamarette taking over from 1985 to 1988. Dawn Acton also played the part from 1988-96. Most notable lately for attempting to split up Roy and Hayley Cropper by falsely claiming that Roy was the father of her child, and later for murdering love-rat boyfriend Charlie Stubbs as revenge for his womanizing. Ooya.

SUSAN BARLOW Has been played by four actresses - Katie Heannau from 1965 to 1970, Wendy Jane Walker from 1970 to 1971 and 1985 to 1988, Suzy Patterson from 1979 to 1981, and Joanna Foster from 2000 to 2001. During that time, she has married her dad's arch enemy Mike Baldwin, fallen pregnant, run away, come back, revealed she didn't have an abortion, and been killed in a crash. It's a soap, so don't rule out a return.

KEN BARLOW Played by Bill Roache since 1960, Ken is the cornerstone. An ex-teacher, he has raised hackles among family and friends with scathing views on the repressed climate of the small pocket of suburban northern England he lives in. Despite this - and a string of affairs - he is one of the most well-liked characters.

DEIRDRE BARLOW Anne Kirkbride first appeared on screen in 1972 wearing outsized glasses which have since gone on to gain iconic status, crossing over into everyday conversation - "Deirdre Barlow specs" is a term used to describe glasses like car windscreens. Ex-jailbird Deirdre has been married to three men, but she and Ken are the nation's favourite telly couple.
