Highest paid civil servant was on EUR1m; TREASURY.

THE former boss of the National Treasury Management Agency was the highest paid civil servant in 2008, it emerged yesterday.

Michael Somers received a pay package of EUR1million, including a bonus of EUR400,000.

The ex-boss of the NTMA retired last year after 48 years in the public service, including 20 years managing the country's debt.

Details of his salary have always been kept secret but have now been revealed in a Freedom of Information request.

The NTMA still does not reveal its top salary figures and it was criticised this week by the Comptroller and Auditor General for hiring costly advise rs.
