High glamour.

Our vote for the sexiest new tasting room in California wine country: Brown Downtown, where San Francisco designer Catherine Kwong (below right) curated a sumptuous array of textures. "We were drawn to the raw industrial vibe," says Kwong of her first visit to the historic Napa building that now houses the lounge. "So we tried to maintain that feeling even as we added the luxe layers." Located on the second floor of an old newspaper office, the tasting room establishes an urban presence for Brown Estate Vineyards, the first and only black-owned estate winery in Napa Valley. Marble countertops, mohair velvet sofas, and wide-plank gray oak floors pop against the moody walls (C2 Paint's Espionage, a sultry blue). Naturally, the tasting room has become a stop for bon vivants in the know. Says Kwong, "It feels like you walked into the coolest party and someone's there to greet you with a glass of wine." From $25/tasting, by appointment only; brownestate.com.
