High art in the Rockies.

The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation was established in June, 1984 by Marie Walsh Sharpe. It is the culmination of her long-held dream of providing financial assistance to the very gifted in the visual arts. Her death at the age of 95 ended a life replete with world travel, real estate and other business successes, philanthropy and patronage of the arts. Before her death, Ms. Sharpe instructed the Foundation to develop a program which would provide supplemental instruction, through workshops and seminars, to gifted visual arts students.

The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Summer Seminar, held on the Colorado College campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a scholarship program available to all artistically gifted high school juniors. The seminar offers an intensive visual art studio program for the students with artists-in-residence as instructors. The artists share with the students their unique insights, technical expertise and commitment to art.

This two-week institute allows each student to gain a stronger foundation of skills and understanding in the visual arts through experiencing college-level drawing and painting instruction in a studio setting. Sessions concerning careers in art, the development of a portfolio, art history and small group discussions with artists are also included.
