Hibs can talk Jack back in time for TV derby.
HIBS will hold further talks with Mathias Jack today as they aim to have his situation resolved before Sunday's televised Edinburgh derby.Easter Road managing director Rod Petrie held negotiations with the 33- year-old German midfielder yesterday afternoon.
And renewed discussions today could finally see Jack re-signing for Hibs, hot on the heels of the capture of striker Mixu Paatelainen from Strasbourg.
The former Dusseldorf midfielder has been training with the squad this summer in the hope of Hibs finding the cash to keep him.
Since the sales of Ulrik Laursen and Ulises de la Cruz - and the agreement of an SPL TV deal with BBC - talks have begun in earnest.
And having Jack added to his squad before the first clash of the season against city rivals Hearts would be a major boost for manager Bobby Williamson.
Yesterday, Petrie would only say: "Talks are on-going. We had a constructive discussion and will meet again to discuss things further."
Meanwhile, Grant Brebner will be given until later this week to see if he can make the derby.
The midfielder was taken off during the 2-1 home defeat by Aberdeen after being hit full in the face by a deflected shot from team- mate Garry O'Connor.
Williamson said: "Grant ran about for a bit after being hit but seemed to get worse as the game wore on.
"He was feeling poorly at half-time in the dressing room.
"He was having a bit of trouble seeing properly out of his left eye and was feeling a bit nauseous."
Hibs also expect to receive international clearance in the post from the French FA this week to enable new signing Paatelainen to join the squad for Sunday's derby.
