Eastern Bank names Kathleen Henry General Counsel
Boston-based Eastern Bank has named Kathleen C. Henry as its new general counsel and secretary.
In her role, she will manage legal affairs for the commercial bank. Responsibilities include: compliance with laws and regulations; corporate governance; in-house legal advice; and risk assessment.
She has more than 15 years of legal experience. Most recently, she was general counsel and deputy general counsel at Plymouth Rock Assurance. Earlier, she was a partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart.
Henry graduated from Northeastern University School of Law and Boston University.
Among her volunteer efforts are: the board of directors for the Political Asylum Immigration Representation Project, and the board of trustees for the Insurance Library Association of Boston. She is a past member of the board for the Lamp for Haiti Foundation.
In her spare time, Henry is a long-distance runner, with her finishing her 10th Boston Marathon this year.
Anat Hakim General Counsel for WellCare Health Plans
WellCare Health Plans has named Anat Hakim general counsel, secretary and senior vice president.
In her new role for the Florida-based company, Hakim will lead the legal department.
Recently, Hakim was divisional vice president and associate general counsel, litigation, for Abbott Laboratories, a diagnostic, medical device, nutrition and branded generic pharmaceutical manufacturer. She oversaw the company's commercial litigation; compliance, internal investigations and remediation; government investigations; intellectual property litigation; and labor and employment counseling.
Earlier, she worked at Foley & Lardner, where she concentrated on patent, trademark, trade secret and complex commercial lawsuits. She also worked at Latham & Watkins. She is a graduate of Harvard's law school and the University of Wisconsin.
WellCare Health Plans provides government-sponsored managed care services, largely through Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription drug plans.
In a statement, Hakim noted how her new position will allow her to be "in a role that uniquely blends my legal and health care backgrounds."
Michelle Friend New General Counsel at Movable Ink
Movable Ink -- a tech company for e-mail marketers -- has named Michelle Friend its new general counsel.
In her new post, Friend will advise the company's top management on legal and business issues, and oversee legal functions, such as commercial, corporate, product and privacy.
Earlier, she was associate general counsel of Yodle. That company was sold to Web.com and she played a key role in the deal during her tenure. Before that, she was an in-house attorney at Lawyers Alliance for New York and TruFund Financial Services. She is a graduate of Columbia Law School and Connecticut's Trinity College.
"As [previously an] in-house counsel to an innovative and successful tech startup, I look forward to the challenge of helping Movable Ink achieve its continued goals for market innovation, company growth and international expansion," Friend said in a statement.
JoAnn C. Maxey Promoted to General Counsel at University of Arkansas System
JoAnn C. Maxey recently was named general counsel at the University of Arkansas System. Since 2012, Maxey was associate general counsel with the University of Arkansas System.
Earlier, she was worked at the Williams & Anderson, and the Kaplan, Brewer, Maxey & Haralson law firms. She also taught at the University of Arkansas law school. Additionally, she was a board chair of the Volunteer Organization of Central Arkansas Legal Services, as well as chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Arkansas Bar Association.
She graduated from the University of Arkansas law school and the University of Missouri.
