Henrico Aquatics Center.

Location : Henrico

Henrico County and YMCA of Greater Richmond officials stated a $10 million indoor aquatics center slated to rise across from the new Fairfield library will help revitalize the area and reduce the risk of drowning deaths.County Manager John Vithoulkas stated the new 21,000-square-foot facility beside the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center is part of a larger vision for the Laburnum Avenue corridor. In addition to the library, which is scheduled to open in the fall, the county has designated a section of the corridor around the Richmond Raceway for revitalization and allocated $2 million last year to create a fund intended to support rehabilitation efforts there and elsewhere in the county.

The aquatics center will be built, managed and operated by the YMCA on 6 acres of county-owned land on North Laburnum Avenue between Harvie and Creighton roads. Henrico will fund the entire cost of construction, said county spokesman Steve Knockemus.
