DEFCON-2 Outlines the History of the Cuban Missile Crisis

Henninger Productions, the production and programming arm of Henninger Media Services, has received a full commission from the Discovery Channel to produce DEFCON-2, a historical documentary commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis and hosted by internationally acclaimed writer Tom Clancy.

The hour-long special is currently in production and scheduled to premiere on October 30, 2002.

DEFCON-2 traces the history of the Cuban Missile Crisis from the perspective of those who were on its front lines. Clancy, in a rare television appearance, provides an on-camera contribution of his own insights into this defining moment in world history.

Only once during the 45-year long Cold War did the United States and the Soviet Union come within a breath of total nuclear war - during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962. For the U.S., the preparations reached "DEFCON-2", the highest state of U.S. military readiness short of war. The Soviet military was also brought to this unprecedented state of combat alert. Although 40 years have elapsed since the Cuban crisis, the true story and the facts of the crisis have remained largely unknown to the public until DEFCON-2.

"Investigating momentous historic events can prove to be a valuable tool for gaining insight into current events," said Brian J. Kelly, executive producer, Henninger Productions. "This documentary goes back in time to investigate the only event in history that moved mankind to the brink of total destruction with hundreds of millions of lives held in the balance. This subject remains highly relevant in today's tense international environment."

Henninger Productions is a division of Henninger Media Services (www.henninger.com), one of the nation's largest video, film and new media service providers.
