Helping hand with art.

A SERIES of free events and printed guides are being launched by mima in Middlesbrough to help people get more out of modern art.

The guides will be available alongside an events programme aimed at explaining key aspects of modern art.

The gallery will offer more access to works in mima's collection through collection stores visits and regular displays of works.

mima's new Beginner's Guide to Modern Art will be available from April 13. It will offer an insight into the highlights of Middlesbrough's art collection at mima.

Gail-Nina Anderson will give a talk on Saturday, April 13, from 2pm to 3pm. It will explore shape, decoration and abstraction in modern art. On April 20, 2pm to 3pm, her talk will look at modern approaches to the figure in works from mima's collection The talks are free but advance booking is essential. A film is being produced with Middlesbrough creative writers talking about modern art. From April 13 an interactive guide and trail will help children and adults get more out of a mima visit.
