Help as bill company goes bust; economy.

THoUSAnDS of consumers left high and dry after a billpaying company went bust have been assured of help to manage household charges.

The Home Payments business shut its doors on Wednesday, leaving 2,300 customers unable to pay bills and some facing further losses on savings.

The national Consumer Agency said regulators in the banking, energy and telecoms sectors and other industry bodies have given a commitment to treat exposed billpayers sympathetically. But nCA chief executive Ann Fitzgerald said: "We are strongly urging consumers to ensure any financial service they use is regulated.

"Any savings held with unregulated services are not covered by the deposit guarantee scheme."
