Hedgehog 'blown up like a balloon'.

Byline: STEPHEN STEWART s.stewart@dailyrecord.co.uk

A HEDGEHOG "blown up like a beach ball" has been diagnosed with a severe case of balloon syndrome.

The animal, inflated to twice his size, was found wandering in circles in Doncaster.

The rare condition occurs when gas collects under the skin, so it inflates like a balloon.

RSPCA inspector Sandra Dransfield said: "It's the worst case of balloon syndrome I've seen.

"This poor chap was almost twice his natural size, blown up like a beach ball with incredibly taut skin. "He was X-rayed and vets released some of the air from under his skin. We found him in the nick of time."
