A symposium on the transport, held in April 2009 in Vancouver, British Columbia, provided scientists and engineers an opportunity to discuss relevant developments in measuring transport properties of building materials and the application of these developments in the construction business. The concern here is the movement of heat, air, and moisture through walls, floors, and roofs rather than through the air. From the presentations, 19 were selected and peer reviewed for publication here. They cover material and measurement, test methods and experiment, and applications and modeling. Among specific topics are convective mass transfer coefficients for gypsum and wood paneling, measuring water permeability in roof tiles and the influence of trapped air, procedures and interim results of assessing the energy rating of polyurethane spray foam walls, uncertainty analysis in hygrothermal measurements and its effect on experimental conclusions, proposed modifications for models of heat transfer problems involving partially melted phase-change processes, and whether compact asphalt shingle roof systems should be ventilated.
