Heat exchanger replaces tandem foam extruder.

A combination heat exchanger and static mixer from Fluitec Georg AG in Neftenbach, Switzerland, is being used to replace the second cooling extruder in tandem extrusion of PS foam. At four commercial installations, a 15-in.-diam. Fluitec CSE-XR unit mixes and cools PS foam to 230 to 248 F, producing insulation and construction sheet with high homogeneity and uniformity.

The heat exchanger can replace the tandem extruder for relatively low foam outputs of 220 to 1000 lb/hr. For higher outputs, the heat exchanger is used together with a tandem cooling extruder, raising the extruder's output and improving thermal homogeneity. Tel: +41 (52) 305 00 40 *
