Healthy Purchase

We hear that Pat Riley of the Little Rock Athletic Club is thinking of buying a large health club, the Ichiban Center, which lies between Fayetteville and Springdale.

The 35,000-SF facility sits on three and a-half acres and has been vacant for close to a decade -- kind of odd for the booming corner of our state.

We're told that Ichaban, which supposedly sports a topnotch judo set-up plus racquetball and tennis courts, is currently tied up in an estate proceeding and will be sold relatively cheaply.

A reporter at the Northwest Arkansas Times Record says the asking price is $2 million. (In 1984, it was appraised at $1.5 million.) The reporter also tells us a local minister wants it for a youth center but is not making much headway.
