Healthcare IT research center launched. (IT Organizations).
Citing an unfulfilled need for rigorous and impartial data to
support IT investment decisions, Partners HealthCare System Inc.,
Boston, has launched the Center for Information Technology Leadership
(CITL). "Promising IT tools exist, but they need to-be mined,"
says Blackford Middleton, M.D., chairman of CITL's executive
committee. He indicates that CITL will conduct studies and publish
reports to unveil high value IT investments, like computerized physician
order entry systems, which have been shown to reduce medication errors by more than 50 percent. "It is often unclear what investments have
the biggest impact on the bottom line and quality of care," says
John Glaser, CIO for Partners, and founding member of CITL. Expert
panelists will select topics for rigorous analysis, and then disseminate
findings for use by healthcare provider organizations. For information
