Horizon Business Folder Helps Hospitals Reduce Write-Offs and

Shorten Cash Collection Cycle

McKesson Information Solutions today announced Horizon Business Folder(TM), its new document imaging solution and workflow platform for healthcare business offices.

Designed to reduce operational costs, optimize reimbursement and shorten payment cycle time, Horizon Business Folder automates and streamlines the management of claims documentation, remittance advices and other documentation to support reimbursement. Horizon Business Folder makes this information - both paper and electronic - available at each business office employee's fingertips, leading to improved efficiency, greater accuracy and lower costs.

Baptist Health Systems, Inc. (BHS), of Jackson, Miss., is already seeing the benefits of Horizon Business Folder. Tedious manual processes in the BHS business office led to delays in compiling documentation requested by payors to support claims payment, resulting in less than optimal cash collections. Building on its successful use of Horizon Patient Folder(TM) to streamline medical records management, BHS is using Horizon Business Folder to enhance revenue capture by automating the fulfillment of documentation requests and other paper-based business office processes.

"Horizon Patient Folder has enabled BHS to achieve a dramatic reduction in accounts receivable days and reduce patient chart delinquencies to their lowest level ever," said Rick Caldwell, BHS chief information officer. "The addition of Horizon Business Folder enables us to extend these efficiencies even further. With account documentation available online for simultaneous access by the business office staff, we will further improve our response time and claims follow-up while optimizing our cash collections."

Horizon Business Folder shares a common imaging foundation with McKesson's popular Horizon Patient Folder solution, which uses document imaging to streamline the management of medical records and make them more accessible to authorized parties like physicians and health information management staff. Horizon Patient Folder is deployed in more than 275 facilities, representing the electronic management of more than 200 million individual medical records.

An integral part of McKesson's revenue cycle solution, Horizon Business Folder electronically captures, stores and provides immediate access to pertinent patient and payor information needed to support the registration, billing and claims process regardless of how the information is provided - in paper, ANSI, or other electronic format. Through workflow tools, Horizon Business Folder helps providers to automate manual, labor-intensive processes. This includes splitting batch Explanation of Benefit forms (EOBs) into individual patient files and providing appropriate attachments to support claims and manage denial appeals. As a result, organizations can reduce costs associated with billing and claim submission, shorten payment cycle times, lower accounts receivable and capture more money for the services they provide by reducing claim denials and write-offs.

"With Horizon Business Folder, McKesson offers a complete solution that combines process re-engineering with proven document imaging and workflow tools to put an end to the paper chase and automate key processes," said Loren Buysman, general manager for McKesson's Enterprise Imaging Group. "The result is optimal revenue capture at less expense, enabling organizations to use the resulting cost savings to help fund strategic patient safety and other health system initiatives."
