HealthShare Montana.

HealthShare Montana began in 2005 as a grass roots organization of healthcare leaders from across the state that came together as a result of their desire to improve healthcare for all Montanans. It is a non-profit organization composed of a 21-member Board of Directors that includes representatives from state government, major payers, consumer groups, large and small healthcare facilities, and individual providers.

The organization is planning, developing, and implementing a statewide health information exchange infrastructure that will go forward in two phases. Phase 1 includes "Secure Messaging," which facilitates patient-centered, provider-to-provider communication and meets requirements for Stage 1 Meaningful Use for the exchange of clinical care summaries and lab results. Stage 2 includes implementing the full exchange with a clinical data repository that allows for analysis and study of de-identified health information with the intent of improving the quality of healthcare for Montanans.
