Health bosses buried the truth over 20 patient deaths; SPECIAL REPORT.

HEALTH trust bosses were yesterday accused of a catalogue of failures which led to the truth about 20 patient deaths being buried.

An anti-secrecy watchdog ruled in favour of whistleblower nurse Rab Wilson, who battled for five years to obtain serious incident reports from hospitals and clinics in the NHS Ayrshire and Arran area.

Scottish Information Commissioner Kevin Dunion revealed the board withheld more than 50 reports, 20 of which are believed to have involved deaths.

Last night, Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon ordered an "urgent audit" of the board's clinical governance procedures - the way patient care is monitored to make sure lessons are learned.
