Health Net Title Sponsor of Mossman Triathlon in Milford, Conn.; June 3rd Triathlon Benefits Make-A-Wish Foundation.

SHELTON, Conn. -- Health Net of the Northeast is pleased to announce it will be the title sponsor of the Mossman Triathlon being held in Milford, Conn. on June 3, 2006. To this end, Health Net signed an agreement with Mossman Trifitness Events, a leading multisport event company that organizes several of the region's top triathlon events.

The Health Net Mossman Triathlon is Health Net's sixth athletic event sponsorship in Connecticut communities in the past year. Health Net's goal is to both support local charitable organizations and to promote healthy and active lifestyles.

The event's official charity is The Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) of Connecticut, Inc. USA Triathlon, the sport's governing body, sanctions the Triathlon.

"Health Net works hard to promote healthy lifestyles among our members and in our local communities," said Steve Nelson, president, Health Net of the Northeast. "Running, biking and swimming are three popular activities individuals and families can partake in together to stay healthy."

Health Net is challenging companies and high schools in the tristate to support individuals and relay teams in the race (a relay team has a separate person doing each of the swim, bike and run sections). The top finishing and fund-raising teams will take home the Health Net Corporate Challenge and Health Net High School Challenge trophies.

"Milford is the perfect venue for a triathlon, with scenic routes along the shore and inland. The city is excited that Health Net and Team Mossman decided to bring the triathlon back to Milford after such a long hiatus," said Milford Mayor, James L. Richetelli Jr.

The last triathlon staged in Milford was in June of 1998.

Triathlons, long thought to be the domain of highly trained athletes, are growing in popularity. With its emphasis on cross-training and balanced workouts, triathlon is regarded as an ideal approach toward physical fitness.

"Contrary to what you may think, people of virtually all ages and athletic abilities can participate in the sport of triathlon. With Health Net's support, we are encouraging first-time triathletes as well as offering a true challenge for seasoned competitors," said Paul Butcher, Director of Mossman Trifitness Events.

Starting and finishing at Walnut Beach in Milford, the triathlon will be Olympic distance -- a 1.5 km swim leg off the beach, a 40 km bike ride over a three-loop course through Milford, and a scenic 10 km run along the shoreline.

"We are very honored and thankful that Health Net chose our foundation as a beneficiary of this event," said Judy Campisi, CEO, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut. "It is great to see local companies doing so much for their community and helping our wish families experience magical moments."
