Health Minister patronizes over Annual Light Arms Shooting Competition Conclusion.

Muscat, Mar 7 (ONA) --- Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Saieedi, Health Minister today patronized over the final stage of the Annual Light Arms Shooting Competition 2011 in the presence of Lt. Gen. Ahmed bin Harith al-Nabhani, Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces, Chairman of the Omani Shooting Association.

Dr. Al-Saieedi and the attendees listened to a brief given by the Military Sports Director in COSAF Headquarters about the activities of the competition, after that the Health Minister watched the final stage for plate shooting that was organized for the teams of officers and personnel. The shooters showed high efficiency in fast accurate hitting the targets that reflects the level of preparation and competition for winning the Sultan Qaboos medal for the Best Shooter that is given on annual basis to the best shooter by gun and pistol, in addition to other competitions.

The results of the competition were as follow:

For individuals in the Sultan Medal for Best Gun Shooter, Second Lieutenant Salim bin Hamad al-Hinai from Royal Oman Police (ROP) came first while Second Major Rashed bin Salim al-Balushi from Royal Army of Oman (RAO) came second.

For of Sultan Qaboos medal for Best Pistol Shooter, Second Warrant Officer Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Ghaisani from Royal Army of Oman came first while Sergeant Yaqoob bin Sulaiman al Hasni from Royal Oman Police came second.

For the individual gun shooting competition (progress) second Warrant Officer Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Ghassani from Royal Army of Oman won the first position while Second Lieutenant Salim bin Hamad al Hinai from Royal Army of Oman won the second position.

For the individual gun shooting competition (retreat) staff sergeant Mohammed bin Abdullah al-Khatri from Royal Army of Oman came first while Second Corporal Zahed bin Ali Fadhal also from the Royal Army of Oman came second.

For the individual pistol shooting competition, Second Warrant Officer Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Ghassani from Royal Army of Oman came first, while flight sergeant, Hamoud bin Khalfan al-Rahbi from the Royal Air Forces of Oman (RAFO) came second.

For the gun shooting on the level of lieutenants, captain Mussalam bin Abdullah al-Subhi from the Royal Army of Oman came first, while Captain Hamdan bin Mohammed al-Alawi from the Royal Oman Police came second.

For the female pistol shooting competition, Corporal Salmah bint Said al-Miqbaliyah came first while Second Warrant Officer Ayshah bint Abdullah al-Balushiyah came second and both are from Royal Oman Police.

For the team gun shooting competition for progress and retreat, the team of the Royal Army of Oman came first while the team of the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) came second.

For the team pistol shooting competition on the level of individuals, the team of the Royal Army of Oman came first while the team of the Royal Air Force of Oman came second.

For the pistol shooting competition on the level of lieutenants, the team of the Royal Army of Oman came first while the team of the Royal Oman Police came second.

For the female pistol shooting competition, the team of the Royal Army of Oman came first while the team of the Royal Oman Police came second.

For the individual plate shooting competition, the team of the Royal Army of Oman came first while the team of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) came second.

In the same competition on the level of lieutenants, the team of the Royal Army of Oman came first while the team of the Royal Oman Police came second.

For the female plate shooting competition, the team of the Royal Oman Police came first while the team of the Royal Air Force of Oman came second.

The competition was organized with the participation of COSAF, the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), Engineering Services at the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Oman Police (ROP), female teams at the Royal Army of Oman, the Royal Air Force of Oman and the Royal Oman Police.

It is worth mentioning that this competition is held an annual basis and organized by the Military Sports Directorate that is chaired by the Sultan's Armed Forces. The competition aims at raising the level of efficiency in using the light arms by lieutenants, staff lieutenants and individuals, in addition to choosing the shooters who are qualified for joining the national shooting teams that represent the Sultanate in the regional and international circles.

Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Saieedi, Health Minister said that shooting is amongst the main military training for all the military individuals in the Sultan's Armed Forces and other security services that are considered the nation's fence and the watchful eye for the achievements realized during the forty years of the march. "We have to be proud of what we have seen of amazing accuracy in shooting and other achievements realized by the national and military shooting teams in their regional and international participations" he added.
