Heading off to...Havana.

WHERE IS IT? Havana is the capital city of the Caribbean island of Cuba. VISIT Havana was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and due to its strategic location served as a springboard for the Spanish conquest of the continent and a stop-off point for the treasure-laden Spanish galleons crossing from the New World to the Old World.

Contemporary Havana can essentially be described as three cities in one: Old Havana, Vedado and the newer suburban districts.

Many buildings in Old Havana have fallen in ruin but a number are being restored.

Vedado is a vibrant neighbourhood popular for social gatherings.

The souring of relations between Cuba and the USA, its near neighbour, 50 years ago has made Havana appear like a city that has stopped in time with its dependence on old-style technology. BOOK IT NOW A visit to Havana can be combined with a holiday at one the more modern resorts in eastern Cuba. See your travel agent.
