He's a cut above.

A SWORD swallower who accidentally skewered himself in front of a live audience is heading to Tyneside. Hannibal Helmurto is the latest cast member to join Circus of Horrors which comes to Whitley Bay Playhouse on February 6. The performer was taken to hospital on the second night of the UK tour after he tried to force a four-foot long sabre down his throat and it went wrong.

He has since recovered and will perform alongside the rest of the cast next month.

Circus of Horrors' Day of the Dead show will feature some of the world's most daring and bizarre circus acts.

Set in Mexico during the early 1900s, it tells the story of a group of beings who transport the body of their leader, Dr Haze, to a remote area of Mexico.

Witch doctors, voodoo acrobats, pickled people, bendy bodies, demon dwarfs and flying vampires erupt, chained, from a tank of blood, to perform blood-curdling stunts.
