Hawley double boosts County.

KARL HAWLEY scored a double as Notts County moved into the League One play-off places with a strong display against promotion hopefuls Hartlepool.

Hawley expertly hooked home his first when Pools failed to clear their lines following Mike Edwards long throw-in.

The striker (pictured right) made it 2-0 after the break by racing on to a Ben Burgess header before chipping the ball over keeper Scott Flinders.

Substitute Cristian Montano then fired in a 20-yard shot in injury time.

Pools, who have now lost their last two league games having been unbeaten before that, barely threatened but could have gone ahead after a minute through Antony Sweeney's header.

Magpies keeper Stuart Nelson comfortably dealt with the header and that was to prove to be his only noteworthy save until the closing stages when he blocked a Gary Liddle strike.

The hosts, who have now won their last five home league matches, could easily have won by a greater margin.

Hawley, who had not found the net in 47 league games, was a constant menace and almost scored with a first-time effort from a Burgess header in the first half.
