Hatching all-new design of future.

Malaysian manufacturer Proton has provided the first glimpse of its all-new hatchback which will be launched in UK dealerships soon.

The arrival of the oddly-named GEN-2 is a hugely significant introduction for Proton Cars in the UK and marks the start of a concerted campaign to redefine the brand on the British market and appeal to a wider customer base.

Details so far are sketchy, but the car will be powered by a new 110bhp, 1.6-litre engine with a choice of manual or automatic transmission. Manual versions will cover the 0-62mph sprint in 12.6 seconds and go on to a top speed of 118mph. Combined fuel consumption is 39.2mpg.

There will be three trim levels with prices starting at pounds 8,995 for the 1.6GL and rising to pounds 11,395 for the top-of-the-range 1.6GLX auto. In between, there's the 1.6GLS at pounds 9,595.
