BEIRUT: Interior Minister Raya El Hassan said Tuesday that the state must cooperate with Cabinet ministries and civil society actors to enhance its capabilities in fighting cybercrimes, during a conference on cybersecurity. "While the internet has eased personal and financial transactions, at the same time it has allowed new types of crimes using the internet to surface, which sometimes lead to paralyzing sensitive sectors, in ways that threaten national security," Hassan said at the event.
The minister said that to achieve a healthy presence of cybersecurity, there must be cooperation between the country's military and security agencies as well.
Cyberspace must be protected from all kinds of attacks, she stressed, through enacting initiatives to limit technological dangers facing both the public and the private sectors.
Hassan praised the efforts of the Internal Security Forces and its Information Branch in combating cybercrime and terrorism in all fields.
"Security services have done an excellent job in enhancing protection strategies, and they are focused on enhancing their technical abilities, training those who work in fighting cybercrime and managing and maintaining digital evidence," she said.
The minister added that "these accomplishments were a fundamental aspect" in achieving Lebanon's current state of security and stability, despite the "challenging regional circumstances."
Hassan, who is affiliated with Prime Minister Saad Hariri's Future Movement, was representing the premier at the conference, titled "Enhancing International Cooperation in Cybersecurity," held at the ISF's academy in Aramoun.
