Hash haul lawyer is banned from his job.

A LAWYER who was jailed after being caught with 31kg of cannabis has been banned from his profession.

Gerard Nesbitt, 54, was caged for three-and-a-half years after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency caught Nesbitt and Iain McKenzie with the drugs at a flat in Battlefield, Glasgow, in May 2012. This week, watchdogs at the Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal struck off Nesbitt, an employment law brief from Newlands, Glasgow.

The tribunal's vice chair Douglas McKinnon said: "Members of the public must have a well founded confidence that any solicitor whom they instruct will be a person of unquestionable integrity, probity and trustworthiness."
