Harry Potter author outs wizard as "gay".
Professor Albus Dumbledore, the wise wizard and headmaster of the
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, has become a hero to
millions of fans of the Harry Potter books and films. So when British
author J.K. Rowling, creator of the hugely popular Harry Potter series,
informed an audience on October 19 at Carnegie Hall in New York City that she had always viewed her fictional character Dumbledore as being
homosexual, a firestorm of controversy erupted. Many of her readers were
naturally shocked since they had not detected any "gayness" in
Dumbledore. Also not surprising, liberal and openly homosexual media
commentators celebrated the "outing" as a major milestone
event. "Dumbledore may now be the world's most famous gay
children's character," said the homosexual publication The
Advocate.
"Jo Rowling calling any Harry Potter character gay would make wonderful strides in tolerance toward homosexuality," Melissa Anelli, Webmaster of the fan site http://www.the-leakycauldron.org, told the Associated Press. "By dubbing someone so respected, so talented, and so kind as someone who just happens to be also homosexual, she's reinforcing the idea that a person's gayness is not something of which they should be ashamed."
