Communications and information technology company Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has been selected as the radio system and service provider for the Oregon Wireless Interoperability Network (OWIN) programme.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Harris said that the state of Oregon awarded the company a two-year price agreement with renewal options, which will be used by Oregon state and local agencies to purchase public safety communication systems, radios and other equipment. The agreement is expected to have a total value of over USD100m.

The Harris P25 'network of systems' solution will support the communications needs and requirements of the OWIN programme. The OWIN communications infrastructure is expected to improve voice and data interoperability among state, local, county, tribal and federal agencies. Also, the OWIN system will include over 2,400 Unity mobile and portable radios, providing full frequency, 4-band capability in a single unit, Harris said.

The Harris OWIN Radio System project implementation team includes Oregon State University, Silke Communications, Dataradio, Legacy Wireless Services, Event Rental Communications, Complete Wireless Solutions, Pacific Electronics, Ledcor Technical Services (LTS) and SIS-Q Communications. In addition, Harris will form a business incubator enterprise relationship with The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
