Harris Corporation receives CESG certification.

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-29 December 2008-Harris Corporation receives CESG certification(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a communications and information technology company, has received certification from Communications - Electronics Security Group (CESG), the information assurance arm of the UK, for its next-generation programmable encryption device.

According to the company, CESG has determined that the Harris BID-2370 cryptographic modernisation solution meets requirements to secure voice and data to the highest levels of information security.

BID-2370 is an End Cryptographic Unit (ECU) with an embedded Core Cryptographic Module (CCM). It was developed as part of the UK Ministry of Defence Common-good High-grade INFOSEC Module (Programmable), or CHIM(P) programme. The CESG certification is understood to cover both components and provide for future re-use of the stand-alone CCM module, which performs a majority of the ECU's cryptographic functions, in a range of product applications.

The device offers high-grade programmable encryption, allowing new cryptographic algorithms/features to be added over time without the need to change hardware. In addition, it allows a specific set of cryptographic algorithms to be programmed for a specific purpose. Because is reconfigurable, it will support legacy serial networks, as well as modern packet-based systems in the same box. It was also designed with enough processing capacity to support future cryptographic and networking features, including the next-generation, evolving HAIPE and Link Encryption Family (LEF) interoperability standards, the company said.
