Hard rock band coup.

Tickets went on sale today for one of the most famous and talked about heavy rock bands in the world's Toon gig.

Motley Crue will play Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena on Tuesday, June 21, and tickets went on sale at 9am.

Motley Crue were formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, when bassist and main songwriter Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee recruited guitarist Mick Mars and vocalist Vince Neil.

With their rivet-studded, leather-boy style and speedy sound they quickly developed a local following. The band's real breakthrough came with their second album Shout At The Devil, which put them at the forefront of the 80s metal boom.

World domination continued with the platinum-selling album Theatre Of Pain, from which the power ballad Home Sweet Home became one of MTV's most requested videos of all time.

The band's colourful history includes surviving everything from car crashes, drug overdoses, failed marriage, incarceration, accusations of devil worshiping and onstage mishaps. They have written legendary hard-rock classics, including Girls Girls Girls, Dr Feelgood, Bitter Pill, Looks That Kill and Kickstart My Heart.

Nichola McKenna of Metro Radio Arena said: "This is a phenomenal coup for the venue and the region as a whole."
